Never been pumpkin picking before? Don’t fret; it’s easy peasy! Here are some top tips we recommend when pumpkin picking!

• Wrap up warm! Most pumpkin-picking patches are on an open field. And if it’s a windy day, you don’t want to end up being cold.
• Wear wellies – again since most pumpkin patches are on a field, it’s best to wear the right shoes!
• Look for firm pumpkins – no one wants to go home with a mouldy pumpkin! So, make sure it’s a firm pumpkin (that will help it last until Halloween).
• Bring a fully charged phone – seems like a no-brainer (I mean, who really leaves the house without their charged phone?!). BUT at pumpkin patches, there’s going to be plenty of photo opportunities to snap, so make sure your phone is charged!
• Check the pumpkin picking location to see if they have wheelbarrows to borrow. If they don’t, we suggest bringing sturdy bags or life-long bags that are strong enough to hold the pumpkins.
• Remember to bring some money—plenty of patches offer food and drinks. So, if you want to treat yourself to something small, make sure you have the means to do so.

Celebrating 23 years of picking your own pumpkins, Cairnie Fruit Farm was offering pumpkin picking long before Instagram made it a must-do autumn activity! Home to over 12,000 pumpkins, that are great for carving and cooking – just make sure you don’t carve it too early!

Then when you’re done picking, have a go at the Halloween torch light maze, if you dare…

There will be over 20,000 pumpkins at Arnprior Farm, from HUGE Cinderella orange pumpkins to green warty pumpkins, beautiful white pumpkins and even funky stripy ones!

This year there’s also a chance to dig for tatties, pull your own turnip, plus local pop-up food trucks. Did we mention there’s a horsebox gin truck for the grown-ups too?

Ready for a pumpkin day out? With a 3-hour session, you can pick your Halloween pumpkin from all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours. Then scoop out the wet insides before carving it out! Afterwards, have a zoom around on pedal go-karts, tractors and play in the sandpit and some pumpkin-themed games!
