Pumpkin Picking at Porth Farm

Fifteen thousand pumpkins go into the ground at this working family farm each year, so the field at Caersws is not a token patch with a handful left by lunchtime. Five varieties are grown, and for 2026 the farm has added a giant pumpkin to see how big it will go. The setting is the Upper Severn valley in mid Wales, farmed by the same family who run the pick your own strawberries in summer.

Entry is booked online in advance for an allocated time slot, and the site access pass covers one car rather than each person in it. That pass gets you into the pumpkin picking field and the cafe area. The pumpkins themselves are paid for on site once you have picked, based on how many you take home.

Alongside the field there is a cabin cafe serving homemade cakes, drinks and snacks, which makes a sensible halfway point on a cold morning. The farm shop stocks British farmed produce and local handmade items, so there is something to look at once the picking is done.

This is a seasonal operation rather than a year round attraction. The farm opens for its pick your own runs, strawberries and soft fruit from June to August, then sunflowers, meadow flowers and dahlias, and closes in between. Pumpkin picking is the last of those seasons, and it falls across two blocks of dates in October, so it is worth checking which days are open before you set your heart on a particular weekend.
