Pumpkin Picking at Butt Farm

Entry here is not a fixed price. The White family, who also run the caravan, camping and glamping site at Butt Farm, ask instead for a charitable donation of your choice to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, so what the day costs is genuinely a decision you make rather than one made for you.

The farm grows thousands of pumpkins across a lot of different varieties, for carving, for eating and for autumn displays, and general picking needs no pre-booking. Wheelbarrows are provided so children can cart their own haul back from the field, which quietly solves the problem of a five-year-old choosing a pumpkin they cannot lift.

The field gets muddy and the farm is straightforward about it. Sturdy footwear is recommended, and a selection of adult wellies is available to hire if you have arrived in the wrong shoes. There are toilets and free parking, refreshments including hot and cold drinks, snacks and food, and both cash and card are accepted.

Activities build up as the season goes on. Free pumpkin carving runs every day during October half term, face painting is offered at weekends and through half term, and there is a spooky trail with a competition to win a glamping stay. Dogs are not allowed on the pumpkin patch itself, but the farm runs dedicated Howloween dog picking evenings, ticketed at one ticket per dog.

Some things do need booking ahead: the SEN group sessions, the floral art pumpkin workshops with Isla James Floral Design and the children's Halloween craft sessions.
