Freaky Fun Fest and Pumpkin Picking at Mead Open Farm

Half term at this Bedfordshire farm is given over to Freaky Fun Fest, and the pumpkin is part of the ticket rather than the whole outing. Every child picks a free pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch, one per paying or member child, subject to what is left in the field.

The two haunted mazes are the draw for older children. Horrid High introduces a set of gruesome new classmates, while Scary Tales has Red Riding Hood needing help to get through the woods. Both are undercover, which matters more than it sounds in late October. New for 2026 are the Trick or Treat Trap Doors.

Beyond the Halloween additions the usual farm is open, with outdoor and indoor play, and there are circus performances in a Big Top tent. It adds up to a longer visit than a pumpkin field on its own, so build in time for lunch.

Two practical points are worth having in mind. The farm is fully cashless and takes card payments only, so there is no use bringing a purse of change for the ice cream. Tickets are valid for a stated date, but you can arrive any time from the morning up to last entry in the afternoon, which gives you some slack if the start of the day goes badly. Annual members get in free and do not need to book.
