Pumpkin Picking and the Maize Maze at Coleby

Ten thousand pumpkins and squashes go into the ground here every year, and every one of them is edible, which is not something every patch can claim.

There are 14 pumpkin varieties to pick from and another 20 squash varieties on top, running from the popular orange ones to warty and white types that earn their place in an autumn display rather than under a knife. The patch is bigger for 2026 than it has been in previous years, and wheelbarrows are provided so nobody has to carry a haul back across the field.

Getting to the pumpkins is part of it. A spooky woodland walk leads into the patch, with spiders, ghosts and witches set out along the way. The maize maze has a new design for October 2026, covers five acres and sets a quiz with six clues to find, and there is a viewing platform so you can work out roughly how lost you are.

Away from the field there is a bale playground and open space for children to run off whatever is left in them. The Coffee Barn serves hot chocolates in several flavours, coffees, cold drinks and freshly baked cakes, with seating indoors and out, and a new full-time cafe has been open on the farm since summer 2026.
