There’s no better way to get in the spirit of autumn, than with a visit to a pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkins! Perfect for pre-Halloween family fun, pumpkin picking is becoming more popular each year, with all shapes, sizes and colours to be found!

Pumpkin picking is a fantastic family day out, and the fun continues all the way home when you get to carve it too. So what are you waiting for? Here’s our biggest EVER guide to the 50 best places to go pumpkin picking near you:

Where to pick pumpkins in London & South East

  1. Millets Farm Centre, Oxfordshire
    Grab a wheelbarrow and head into the pumpkin patch at Millets Farm Centre to find loads of pumpkins to choose from! More details about tickets and Covid-safety measures to be announced soon.

    Dates: 26/27th September, 3/4/10/11/17th - 31st October 2020

  2. Crockford Bridge Farm, Surrey
    Perfect for those looking for a pumpkin patch near West London, Crockford Bridge Farm has a choice of pumpkin fun this year. Visit any day in October to pick up a pre-harvested pumpkin, but if you want to pick one from the patch yourself, you’ll need to book a visit for the first two weekends in October.

    Dates: 3/4/10/11th October, with Pumpkin Festival to follow

  3. Picking Patch, Hampshire & West Sussex
    The Picking Patch is back, with two sites in the South East this year. Entry for each is free and there are thousands of pumpkins to choose from - simply pay for the ones you pick! Visit Fordingbridge in Hampshire or Sompting in West Sussex.

  4. Lewis of London, Barnet
    Back by popular demand, this ice cream farm is perfect for families living in and around North London. Head into the field (it can get muddy!) to pick your pumpkin, and enjoy carving and other spooky activities too. Tickets must be booked in advance for entry (£1.50), then you pay for your pumpkin depending on size.

  5. Stanhill Farm, Kent
    There’s no need to pre-book a trip to Stanhill Farm, just turn up, grab a wheelbarrow and head into the field! With thousands of pumpkins planted this year, it’s a great spot for some family photos too.

  6. Garsons Farm, Surrey
    Another pumpkin patch near London, Garsons is a popular patch in Esher, Surrey. This PYO farm has a host of crops throughout the year, but come October, pumpkins are the star of the show. More details about this year’s event are to follow.

  7. Bocketts Farm, Surrey
    The pumpkin patch is just part of the fun at Bocketts Farm this year, there’s also an action-packed Wizards and Witches week for half term. With trails, tractor rides, reptile roadshows and more, visit the on-site patch and buy a homegrown pumpkin to take home.

Where to pick pumpkins in the South West

  1. Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park, Bristol
    Run separately to the farm, Avon Valley is hosting its massive pumpkin patch festival that’s bigger and better than ever! Roam through the muddy field, or pick a pre-picked pumpkin from inside. There’s free parking, and whilst you need to book an entrance time slot, you’re then free to stay as long as you like!

  2. Cotswold Farm Park, Gloucestershire
    One of our favourite pumpkin patches in the South West, Cotswold Farm Park is back with more PYO pumpkins for 2020. With entry and 1x pumpkin token included with farm park entry, it’s a great place for a full family day out - or you can just choose to pay for pumpkin patch entry on its own!

  3. Farrington’s Farm Shop, Bristol
    One of the homes of PYO in Bristol and Somerset, Farrington’s is a great spot for pumpkin picking this October. During lockdown they planted an impressive 40,000 pumpkins, so there are plenty to choose from.

    Dates: 3rd - 31st October, excluding 7th & 14th

  4. Trevaski’s Farm, Cornwall
    Looking for a pumpkin patch in Cornwall? Look no further than Trevaski’s Farm. With fields full of beautiful orange pumpkins, don’t leave it too long to pay this farm a visit. Don’t forget to ask the staff for tips on making them last.

  5. Shute Fruit, Devon
    Another popular pick your own farm in the South West, this is where you’ll find everything from sweetcorn and squashes, to raspberries and runner beans. Come October, pumpkins are added to the crop list, giving you a great place to pick one up for Halloween.

  6. Strawberry Fields Lifton, Devon
    They may be called Strawberry Fields, but come October, the fields are full of pumpkins instead! Available during Pumpkin Fest this half term, look out for the little mini pumpkins that are great for decorating the house this year.

Where to pick pumpkins in the Midlands

  1. Lower Drayton Farm, Staffordshire
    The team at Lower Drayton Farm have been busy during lockdown, planting over 30,000 seeds ready for autumn! From big monster pumpkins to tiny tiddlers for toddlers, you’ll find your perfect pumpkin here.

  2. Manor Farm Fruits, Staffordshire
    Found just 3 miles from Tamworth and 6 miles from Lichfield, Manor Farm Fruits will be home to Pumpkin Fest again this year. More details to follow soon...

  3. Hatton Adventure World, Warwickshire
    Hatton Adventure World will be awash with ghosts, ghouls, cobwebs and of course, pumpkins! Pick your own FREE pumpkin, brave the haunted house and enjoy loads more spooky activities in this all-round great day out.

  4. West Lodge Rural Centre, Northamptonshire
    Collect your very own pumpkin passport when you arrive at West Lodge Rural Centre, granting you access to the impressive pumpkin patch. Here, you’ve also got expert carvers on hand to help you carve the perfect face - ready for a tealight when you get home. There are loads more spooky activities to enjoy too.

  5. Pink Pig Farm, Lincolnshire
    There’s a free pumpkin for every child at Pink Pig Farm’s Pumpkin Festival this year. With carving tables, the chance to visit Windle the Witch and a fun clue trail around the farm too, it’s a great day out for half term.

  6. Doddington Hall, Lincolnshire
    Deep in the grounds of Doddington Hall, you’ll find an exploding of orange colour - on the pumpkin patch of course! Follow the signs via the Kitchen Garden - it’s free to visit the patch, you just pay for what you pick. Remember to bring cash, you won’t be able to pay on card here.

  7. Cattows Farm, Leicestershire
    Cattows Farm is home to the biggest pumpkin patch in the UK, so you’ll really be spoilt for choice. Alongside the usual orange varieties, you’ll find warty Goosebumps pumpkins, white pumpkins and even mini Munchkins - in fact, there are a whopping 40 varieties in total! Simply arrive, pick and pay, average-sized pumpkins are usually just £1.50-£3.50!

  8. Apley Farm, Shropshire
    You’re best to book in advance if you plan to visit Apley Farm’s pumpkin patch this year, with tickets available from just £3 which includes 1x pumpkin per person. With fair rides, an onsite photographer and Mrs Pumpkin - an expert in picking the right one - numbers will be limited to ensure a Covid-safe pumpkin picking day out!

  9. Bluebell Dairy, Derbyshire
    Ready for a spooktacular farm adventure? With themed trails, fancy dress fun and creepy crawlies, the pumpkin patch is just part of the fun at Bluebell Dairy this half term and Halloween. Enjoy a free pumpkin with every full paying child ticket, but feel free to buy any additional ones on the day too. Plus, you get full-day entry to the farm included in your ticket too.

Where to pick pumpkins in the East of England

  1. Willows Activity Farm, Hertfordshire
    Selected as one of our top picks for picking pumpkins, there’s plenty of pumpkin-themed fun at Willows Activity Farm this year. Choose from 1000s of pumpkins in the patch, before heading to the carving cavern to get it ready for Halloween. Don’t miss the brand new Gourds Grotto - it’s the perfect spot for a family photo!

  2. Cammas Hall Farm, Hertfordshire
    There’s Halloween fun, a maize maze and a whole PYO farm at Cammas Hall Farm this year. Visit this October to pick your own pumpkins, along with sweetcorn and onions too!

  3. Skylark Maize Maze & Funyard, Cambridgeshire
    There’s a week of wickedness at Skylark Maize Maze & Funyard this half term, with a huge pumpkin patch just part of the fun. Once you’ve picked your favourite, head to the marquee for some carving fun - they’re in charge of the tidying up!

  4. Foxes Farm Produce, Essex
    With locations in both Basildon and Colchester, this is a great chance to go pumpkin picking in Essex. Strictly pre-booked visits only, they’ve got thousands of pumpkins to choose from - just remember your wellies as the fields can get muddy!

  5. Undley Pumpkin Patch, Suffolk
    This patch has been running for over 20 years, and this year it’s back bigger and better than ever! Set across 75 acres, there’s plenty of space for social distancing, and loads of pumpkins to choose from. Don’t miss the maize maze, too.

Where to pick pumpkins in the North West

  1. Windmill Animal Farm, Lancashire
    The famous pumpkin picking adventure is back at Windmill Animal Farm this year! Choose from over 20,000 planted by Farmer Chris, with one pumpkin included in every pre-booked ticket. Each ticket also includes admission to the farm so you can make a real day of it.

  2. Church Farm, Merseyside
    The pumpkin patch at Church Farm in the Wirral is part of a bigger Family Fright Festival that’s packed full of Halloween-themed fun. There are over 3,000 to choose from (whilst stocks last!), all priced between £2-£5, so be sure to bring some extra change if you plan to visit the patch. Other activities include a scarecrow trail, animal feeding and access to the farm park too.

  3. Dunham Massey Ice Cream Farm, Greater Manchester
    The Dunham Pumpkin Patch has taken over the ice cream farm this year, so you can treat the family to a scoop or two after your visit! There’s no need to book and you pay for what you pick, so it’s great for a more spontaneous day out idea.

  4. Kenyon Hall Farm, Greater Manchester
    One of the biggest sites for pick your own pumpkins in the North West, Kenyon Hall Farm has over 15,000 this year in the outdoor patch - plus an indoor display of ready-picked pumpkins too! Tickets are expected to sell out, so make sure you book nice and early to avoid disappointment.

  5. Cockfields Farm Park, Greater Manchester
    Found on the border of Ashton Under Lyne and Oldham, the pumpkin festival at Cockfields Farm Park is perfect for families in Greater Manchester. Pick your own pumpkin, visit the carving cave, join the Halloween treasure hunt and more - just be sure to book your visit in advance.

  6. Benty Farm Tearooms, Merseyside
    Accessible only by foot, there’s not much information about this Wirral-based pumpkin patch just yet, but if previous years are to go by, this is a great local spot. Expected to be ready for October, keep checking back for more info!

Where to pick pumpkins in the North East

  1. Adventure Valley, Durham
    There’s a free pumpkin included with entry at Adventure Valley this year, plus a whole heap of other activities for a great autumn day out. This is an indoor ‘patch’ so perfect for any wayward weather, with carving, a corn cob catapult and spooky trail available too. There’s limited availability, so book now!

    Dates: 17/18/24th October - 1st November 2020

  2. East Grange, Durham
    20,000 pumpkins in 8 acres of space, including 27 varieties, 6 different colours and all sorts of sizes - East Grange sounds like a great spot for pumpkin picking in the North East! Entry is free, but you do need to book in advance, and you only pay for what you pick. We recommend not leaving it until the last minute, as they may close early if they run out!

  3. Brocksbushes, Northumberland
    Back bigger and better than ever, there will be loads more to choose from at Brocksbushes this year. Pre-booking will be essential, so keep checking back for more details on how to plan your visit.

Where to pick pumpkins in Wales

  1. Pembrokeshire Pumpkins, Pembrokeshire
    Looking for pumpkin picking in South Wales? Pembrokeshire Pumpkins has a whole field of pumpkins ripening up nicely to be ready for October! There’s no official booking, but you are encouraged to let them know which date and time you plan to visit so they can control numbers. Don’t miss the spooky hay-bale trail too!

  2. Cantref Adventure Farm, Powys
    If there were awards for event names, this would definitely take the crown - introducing Harry Trotter and the Pumpkin Patch at Cantref Adventure Farm! With loads of wizard themed activities to enjoy, picking your pumpkin is just part of your fun day out. We’ve heard they’re doing pumpkin launching too - how far can you send yours?

  3. Picking Patch, Cardiff
    This huge 13-acre site has a whopping 55,000 pumpkins in all shapes and sizes, making this a great place to visit for pumpkin picking in Wales - it’s just 15 minutes from the centre of Cardiff! With free entry and free parking, plus loads of other fun activities, you can check the website for daily updates on the patch condition too.

Where to pick pumpkins in Yorkshire

  1. Cannon Hall Farm, South Yorkshire
    You’ll need to book in advance to visit Cannon Hall Farm this autumn, but with amazing animal foot safaris, outdoor playgrounds and pumpkin picking too, it’s well worth the entry fee. There’s a pumpkin included with every kid's ticket, plus others available to buy on the day too.

  2. Piglets Adventure Farm, North Yorkshire
    Pick up a free homegrown pumpkin for every full-paying child at Piglets Adventure Farm. You’ll take a short walk to the field where there’s over 10,000 to choose from - all different shapes, sizes and colours! There’s a carving tent, a mysterious maize maze and all the usual farm fun to enjoy too.

    Dates: 3/4/10/11/17/18/24th October - 1st November

  3. Thornton Hall Country Park, North Yorkshire
    A visit to Thornton Hall this October is best for all the fun-themed activities, as you pay an entry fee for these, plus an additional fee for any pumpkins you want to take home with you. There’s spooky characters, animal demonstrations, spooky shows and more, and there are both morning and afternoon slots available to book.

  4. Stockeld Park, West Yorkshire
    Every child with a paid-for ticket can pick up a free pumpkin at Stockeld Park this year, with extra available to buy for just £2.50 (whatever the size!). There are thousands to choose from in the meadow, and your ticket also includes the spooky maze and chance to see witches in the Enchanted Forest.

  5. Birchfield Ice Cream, North Yorkshire
    Explore 6 acres of pumpkins at Birchfield Ice Cream Farm, with loads of sizes and varieties to choose from. You can pick up a wheelbarrow when you arrive to help you carry your picks back to the car, and don’t forget your wellies. Pay a visit to the carving barn, farm maze and woodland walk too.

  6. Farmer Copleys, West Yorkshire
    130,000 pumpkins are available at Farmer Copleys this year, and there are both peak and off-peak tickets available to pre-book depending on dates. Expect to find more than 20 varieties, corn cannons, pumpkin cookery demos, witches storytime and loads more - promising an action-packed, pumpkin-filled day out for the whole family!

  7. Spilmans Church Farm, North Yorkshire
    Farmer Tom started growing pumpkins in 2014, and he’s been busy again this year getting thousands ready to be picked in October. Open every day for the month, on selected dates you’ll also find some extra spooky activities, like the carving barn, spooky cinema, spooky walks and more. Don’t miss tractor rides across the farm, a maize maze and a magical fairy tree to visit too.

  8. Yorkshire Pumpkins, North Yorkshire
    The clue is in the name, if you’re looking for pumpkin picking in Yorkshire, you’ve come to the right place! Found at Lodge Farm in York, this patch has thousands to choose from. You will need to book in advance as entry is ticketed, so check their site for tickets.

Where to pick pumpkins in Scotland

  1. Craigies Farm, Edinburgh
    Craigie's Farm is a great place for picking your own fruit in the summer months, but come autumn, all attention turns to pumpkins! Perfect for carving or cooking, they’re experts in PYO so you’re guaranteed an authentic experience. Plus, it’s the season for apples too!

  2. Cairnie Fruit Farm, Fife
    Celebrating 21 years of pick your own pumpkins, Cairnie Fruit Farm was offering pumpkin picking long before Instagram made it a must-do autumn activity. Home to over 12,000 pumpkins, they’re great for carving and cooking - just make sure you don’t carve it too early! Online booking is required.

  3. Arnprior Farm, Stirling
    There will be over 10,000 pumpkins at Arnprior Farm, from HUGE Cinderella orange pumpkins to green warty pumpkins, beautiful white pumpkins and even funky stripy ones! This year there’s also a chance to dig for tatties, pull your own turnip, plus local pop-up food trucks. Did we mention there’s a horsebox gin truck for the grown-ups too?

  4. Kilduff Farm, East Lothian
    Tickets are already on sale and selling fast for the pumpkin patch at Kilduff Farm. Initially launched to help engage children with rural life and teach them all about where food comes from, they want to share the message that pumpkins are not just for Halloween! This is the place to go if you’re looking for the best cooking varieties, alongside ones better suited to carving.
