What makes an attraction magical?
Your heart could have been captured by panoramic views, the high painted ceilings of an ancient castle or the dark depths of a sea cave. If one thing’s for certain, it’s that the true magic of an environment is a feeling that is completely unique to us. However, we’ve noticed that most of these ‘magical attractions’ seem to be either beautiful, ancient buildings (and ruins) or areas of natural beauty (and phenomenons). Magic can also be felt in live performances while we are surrounded by other fellow humans.
So, we’ve made it our mission to find the most spellbinding attractions in the UK that we hope will stick with you for the rest of your lifetime. Are you up for the adventure?

Tintagel Castle
It was first built in the 1230s by Richard the Earl of Cornwall. He moved here not for any means of military advancement but because he was bewitched by the romantic tales of King Arthur and Merlin the wizard.
You will find Merlin’s Cave on the beach directly below the castle. It’s 330 ft long and is accessible during low tide. If you’re holidaying in Cornwall why not check it out? Weave through the old ruins, run wild on the beach below it or brave the footbridge to the island. Inspect the cave and keep an eye out for an old bearded man with a tall pointy hat…

Snowdonia National Park
Oh, and its highest point is 3,650 feet tall making Snowdon the highest peak in England and Wales!
Each year around 60,000 people make the summit of Snowdon in the hopes to encounter Llyn Tegid, Wales’ largest natural lake as well as the beautiful views and wildlife.
But it’s not just Snowdon that draws folks in. If you’ve read our article Hiking Trails Near Me, you will have read all about the magnetic nature of the accessible Lyln Llwelyn walk in Beddgelert Forest. And funnily enough the name of the forest ‘Beddgelert’ comes from an ancient tale of the immortal hound Gelert and translates to Gelert’s Grave. It’s said that the noble hound is buried in these mountains.
If you are after some thrills why not head into the heart of Snowdonia in Zip World’s Slate Caverns. You can even play a game of underground golf down there as well as the high ropes and giant trampolines!
Snowdonia is a natural area open all year round.

Castell Coch, ‘Fairytale Castle of Wales’, Cardiff
The castle, also known as the Red Castle, was designed as a love letter to John’s wife, Gwendolen Fitzalan-Howard. If you visit this mystical place keep an eye out for cyrptic messages In the castle and gardens. John used symbolism in his design of the castle through flowers, fables, and Roman and Greek mythology. Each symbol can be pieced together to create one big love letter.
And what’s more? Die-hard Merlin fans (hit BBC series) will recognise the castle from the series in ‘The Changeling’ episode!
This is definitely one of our favourite Magical Attractions In The UK.

Rocky Valley Labyrinths, Tintagel
There have many theories put into play, one of them being that they are just mundane carvings created by a bored worker at a nearby mill.
Mazes were found carved into many other buildings and gardens in the 18th century but this was ruled out as the Rocky Valley symbols were strikingly different.
So then other theories started rolling in. The strongest theory is that the mazes are part of a Celtic ritual for fertility and life. Today, modern real-life pagans like to visit the site and leave offerings by the rocks.
You can find these mysterious rocks south of Trethevy village in Cornwall on the West Coast Path.

St Michaels Mount, Marazion
To enter the island you must follow in the footsteps of pilgrims when the tide goes out, treading across the sandy pathways before they are swallowed back up by the sea… Or of course, you can just catch a boat there!
Once you’re on the island, there are heaps of things to discover, especially inside the castle! From subtropical gardens to ancient doorways, interesting artefacts like crossbows and a piece of Napoleon’s coat from the Battle of Waterloo, there’s so much to see. You’ll even find Samurai statues from the emperor of Japan and St Michael himself begging at the feet of the Devil…
Other attractions on the island include the Church of St Micahel and All Angels which was built in 1135! You’ll get to explore the harbour village, walk past a school (used by students today!), and of course the beach.

Wookey Hole, Somerset
Would you care to hear the old tale…? We’ll take that as a yes! And so the story goes in 1912 the skeletal remains of a woman were found in a shallow grave. Buried with her were the remains of two goats, a bowl, a dagger, a latch lifter and an alabaster ball, all of which can now be seen in Wells Museum in their Balch room…
There are many mysterious stories surrounding the cave as well as the witch, like the monk who turned into stone from drinking water out of the River Axe! But in spite of these creepy stories, the caves are a real wonder to behold and families can go on guided tours along the underground river and through the beautiful caverns. Families also love hiking around the area!

The hexagonal columns were formed millions of years ago by volcanic eruptions but the rare phenomenon was only uncovered in 1772 by botanist Joseph Banks. Since then it has become a must-visit attraction in Scotland.
Aside from the geometric columns you can listen to the astonishing acoustics of Fingal’s Cave, which inspired Mendelssohn to compose his Hebrides Overture. Or you can enjoy a puffin-spotting picnic on the top of the island in summer.

Minack Theatre, Porthcurno
This open-air theatre looks like something built in the Roman Empire but it was in fact, built in 1930. The theatre also has subtropical gardens to explore as well, so it’s perfect for a Summer day out!
