Why you should take a ride on Galactica...
The free-flying coaster soars, spirals and glades across the Alton Towers skyline, holding its riders face down… You’ll experience the ecstasy of flying beyond the trees and the heart-thumping halt as you land inches away from the floor.
The flying position is what makes this ride so magical and is what sets it apart from all other attractions at Alton Towers. Feel like a bird, rocket or Superman as your cut through the landscape.
What's the theme of the ride?
The aerospace operating group, Galactica, developed pioneering launch portal technology. The wormhole can now take up to 28 civilian Galactinauts at a time further than they have ever imagined.
Board the AIR-WING 6000 craft, assume the position and commence the launch sequence… 3, 2, 1, blast off! Build up enough momentum to blast through the plasma of the launch portal and enter new realms of galaxies. As you soar over the Earth, you’ll spiral between the rugged vistas of Vega 10. Glide through the cosmic clouds of Espin on a sensational journey like no other.
Will you make it through the advanced space travel portal and back to base? Soar through the vast expanse of space and bring back
Good luck space cadets, we salute you!
What is Galactica?
Galactica was previously Air (Arial Inversion Ride) and was designed by John Wardley and built by Bolliger & Mabillard as a flying roller coaster.
Want to know a fun fact? John Wardley designed some of the coolest coasters around! He created Nemesis, Oblivion, and Air.
The ride initially had Virtual reality headsets which is what set it apart from Air however, due to customer feedback, the virtual reality theming was removed. Riders agreed that Galactica did an excellent job of providing an outer space experience already, so VR headsets were not necessary.
The main theme of Galactica is the fly element. Space cadets will board their train and wait to be launched into their immersive flight into space. You can expect exhilarating twists, high speed twists, a corkscrew, and drops dips as you are propelled into the cold depths of space.
