Who is Yayoi Kusama?
Her artwork first came to public attention in her first solo exhibition in the early 1950s. The show was held in her hometown. Kusama was and continues to be a woman who broke through the shackles of tradition in the early part of the twentieth century in a conservative area of Japan. So her success and achievements cannot be underestimated!
Kusama’s art is colourful, bold, immersive, and otherworldly which is the perfect combination for bright-eyed kids and curious adults. Kusama is renowned and adored for her surreal world of dots and pumpkins amongst other artistic themes.
She has created a broad scope of work from hallucinatory paintings to fascinating sculptures, and immersive environments, such as her Infinity Mirror Rooms. This piece had the aim of to transcend people beyond themselves, in order to make them feel part of something greater.
