Put down your broomsticks and pick up your lutes, it’s a celebration of all things Tudor this August at Alnwick Castle! Famed for its 950-year-old history of the Percy family and the Harry Potter Broomstick Training classes, Alnwick is an exquisite family attraction with plenty of immersive activities, entertainment and seasonal events. And now, they are hosting the ultimate historical event – The Tudor Weekend! Here’s everything we know so far…

This medieval castle is a firm favourite with families. Not only is Alnwick Castle shrouded in fascinating history but there are so many fun activities for kids. From Harry Potter-themed activities to Tudor dress-up opportunities, ancient artillery and crossbow training, medieval camping and so much more!

Alnwick is the second largest inhabited castle in the UK, with a rich past. Alnwick has served as a military outpost, a teaching college, a refuge for evacuees, a film set, and not least as a family home. Dig up nuggets of knowledge from the 12th century to the present when you explore the castle.

Alnwick is located in Northumberland which is an English location steeped in wonder, wars, and royalty. It’s seen Roman invasions, Norman invasions and Viking attacks which have resulted in stunning castles and landmarks for you to feast your eyes on. Northumberland is a hive for history lovers.

Tudor Weekend at Alnwick Castle

To mark this special historical occasion, Alnwick Castle is showcasing the arts, exciting falconry displays and talks from famous authors!

Prepare to get your toes tapping and your hands clapping to the sweet melodies of ‘The Tudor Songbook’. Listen to classic Tudor songs by the iconic duo dressed as Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn… They will be performing songs around the castle grounds from 11:30, 1:30 & 3:30 in the Guest Hall.

Next on the menu of events is the Raphael Historic Falconry show! The team will be putting on their incredible Tudor birds of prey performances. These historical displays will be located at the Barneyside picnic area. Watch these shows from 11:00, 1:00 & 3:00.

Now if you’re a real Tudor nut, prepare to roar for Tracy Borman! She will be arriving at the castle on 19th August to give interactive talks about her new book, Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I: The Mother and Daughter Who Changed History.

There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re a curious kid with a bright imagination or a history buff with a fondness in your heart for this period in history.

Other fun activities to try out at Alnwick Castle

The headline attraction has to be their Artisans Courtyard. Dress up, do quizzes and wind your way through a labyrinth to see if you can defeat the mythical dragon at the end! Warning: not for the faint-hearted!

Also enjoy special events like Longbow and falconry demonstrations, traditional musical performances and meeting locals like Peterkin, the court jester. His fire-eating, stilt-walking antics will have you laughing and gasping all at once!
