Everyone knows that fairies live at the bottom of the gardens and if you are the parent of a fairy lover like me, you have probably installed a fairy door somewhere in the house and have a fairy garden. Take your whimsical adventure a step further and explore a fairy trail near you. I’ve got some of the best listed here for you!
One of my favourite days out of last year was the New Forest Fairy Festival which is an annual event held in the picturesque village of Burley in Hampshire. It is an enchanting festival enhancing the essences of fairies, elves and pixie folk and sees people wandering around in the most amazing costumes alongside magical stalls, storytelling and even music.
Also in the New Forest is Furzey Gardens where there are so many fairy doors hidden throughout the gardens that we have yet to find them all. That’s one fairy trail, you’ll want to do again and again!
If you live in Essex, the best fairy trail near you is definitely at Audley End. You’ll get the chance to whirl through the pathways to find all of the many tiny Fairies and Elves living in their handmade wooden tree houses or you can make your own Fairy or Elf Wand with one of their own Fairies or Elves.
In Staffordshire, you can find the fairies as you walk around Trentham‘s beautiful mile-long lake, through the woodland, maze and gardens where the Fairies of Trentham live.
Magic is all around the UK! If you live in Scotland and are looking for a fairy trail near you, you’re in luck. North of the border, set on the edge of Loch Lomond is North Ballochruin Farm which has a 1km walk where you will find a fairy trail with fairy doors dotted around along the way.
Wales has its own fairy trails too! There you’ll find Gypsy Wood which combines the wonders of fairies with the charm of animals and the rugged wilderness of 20 acres of beautiful natural woodland.
Another of our favourite fairy days out is BeWILDerwood in Norfolk which is an award winning wild and imaginative outdoor adventure that kids will love. Starting with a magical boat ride, you get to meet the Boggles, Crocklebogs and Twiggles amongst the treacherous trails, fun natural climbing frames and slides galore, this is a world with more than a little sprinkling of fairy dust.
