We’re deep diving into everything about Father’s Day. From when it is, the history and what you can do for yours.
When is Father’s Day in the UK?
So, the most important question is – what day does Father’s Day land upon? Father’s Day in the UK is always on the third Sunday in June.
This year, it’s on 16th June 2024.
But why do we celebrate Father’s Day every year? Let’s delve into some history…
Father’s Day History
The origins of Father’s Day can be traced back to the early 20th century. In 1909, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane, Washington began campaigning for a special day to honour fathers, inspired by the success of Mother’s Day, which had been established several years earlier.
Dodd’s father, a Civil War veteran and widower had raised six children on his own, and Dodd wanted to recognise his sacrifices and the sacrifices of other fathers like him.
But, it wasn’t until 1972, under the presidency of Richard Nixon, that Father’s Day became a permanent national holiday. Today, Father’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world!
What Can I Do To Celebrate Father’s Day?
Father’s Day is a wonderful occasion to celebrate and appreciate the amazing father figures in our lives. So, it’s an absolute must that we do something they’ll love and enjoy, right? Whether it’s through heartfelt gestures and homemade gifts or fun family activities!
There are countless ways to make this day special for the fathers who mean so much to us. You can even make a surprise breakfast in bed, a family picnic in the park or to crafting handmade cards with the kids, every moment can be filled with joy and love.
