Baby’s First Christmas Traditions
There’s something about Christmas that gets people feeling jolly and extra festive. Whether it’s the twinkle in your eyes from wandering around magical Christmas markets, planning your Christmas feast or making other people’s Christmas extra special with thoughtful gifts.
As a family or even with friends, many people carry out Christmas traditions! Whether that may be photoshoots, making personalised gifts, making a gingerbread house or whacking on your favourite festive film.
But what traditions can you do for babies? Well…there’s actually quite a lot! From creating baby memento baubles, staging a photo shoot, or buying your baby’s Christmas outfit!
Let’s look at what you can achieve… And thanks to Nuby, a UK baby brand, we have the list for you.
1. Babyproof Your Christmas Decorations
Whether you only buy baby-friendly decorations to hang on their tree this year or organise your tree decorations! If you like flashy baubles or glass baubles you can still add them, just place them high up on the tree and out of the way of little fingers!
We all know babies love bright things or things that move. And baubles tend to sway a bit…so how about adding plush Christmas tree decorations near the bottom, so they’re soft and baby-friendly!
2. Make Your Baby Their Own Ornament
DIY –
- Using clay, make a round plate and using a small pick or even a pencil, carve whatever words you want. Whether it’s (name, First Christmas) or (‘My First Christmas). Make sure to poke a hole at the top of the clay piece (so you can thread a ribbon through). Once it’s dried, apply some baby-friendly paint to your baby’s hand and print it on the clay ornament. Loop the ribbon through the hole and hang up on the tree!
- Buy a clear plastic bauble that you can fill. Add anything you want that reminds you of your baby. Whether it’s a baby sock, a small baby photo that you can slip in or something small that you’d like to keep forever. Using a sharpie, add whatever message you wish on the outside and hang it up!
Buy –
- For a stress-free Christmas, you can snap up a baby’s first Christmas ornament instead. We found the perfect one. A personalised baby building blocks Christmas bauble. Filled with a wintery backdrop, with fake snow and a tiny Christmas tree, you’ll find building blocks. How are these personal, I hear you say? Well, you can add the name, date of birth and weight of your baby. So, it truly is personalised. You can hang up this beautiful bauble every year and pass it on when the time comes!
3. Stage A Family Festive Photoshoot
Whether you all wear Santa hats, or Christmas jumpers or stage a picture-perfect winter wonderland, your baby can always be included. Place baby reindeer ears on their head, and dress them in festive baby grows or costumes. If you’re warming up to the idea of a winter wonderland, dress them up as a little penguin!
There are so many themes for a Christmas photo shoot, that the possibilities are truly endless. Afterwards, keep the photos, add them to an album and repeat the next year! Soon enough you’ll have your own collection of cute Christmas photos as your family grows.
4. Make a Christmas Breakfast
A great festive breakfast to munch on is pancakes in the shape of Santa!
You’ll need is:
- Ready-made pancakes (or you can make your own)
- A punnet of strawberries or raspberries
- Bananas
- A handful of grapes
- Whipped cream
- Yoghurt
1. If you’re using strawberries, cut them in half lengthways and cut one widthways. Then slice your bananas into circles and halve your grapes widthways. If you’re using raspberries there’s no need to cut them.
2. Place your pancake on the plate and dollop a small tablespoon of yoghurt next to each to make the eyes.
3. Add your halved grapes (one of each) to the yoghurt dollops. Add the width-cut strawberry under the eyes – that’ll make the nose!
4. Add the halved strawberries to the top of the pancake in the shape of a Santa hat.
5. Then place the banana circles on the bottom of the pancake as Santa’s beard!
6. Finally, squirt some whipped cream at the base of the hat and the tip of it too. Voila, you have your Christmas breakfast! For babies make the pancake small and don’t add too much fruit or whipped cream.
5. Kiss Under The Mistletoe
It may not be a big tradition to some, but to others, it makes their day!
We hope we’ve given you some sweet inspiration this festive season. To make your baby’s first Christmas extra special and unique. Whether you make baby-friendly holiday decorations, create some fun for babies with a photoshoot or just create some magical memories to add to the baby book.
‘Tis the season!
