Things To Do
This majestic home has belonged to the Stonor family for a whopping 850 years! The house is full of history, and its grounds are full of exciting adventures that your little ones will love. Children have the freedom to run and explore the Oxfordshire countryside. If that isn’t enough, kids will adore Tumblestone Hollow. This outdoor adventure playground is aimed at 4–12-year-olds and is designed to fire up their wild imaginations!
The quest will never end with a double spiral of steps that takes adventurers from ground level to a lookout deck inside, too; it provides views across the whole playground!
There are large boulders that connect Tumblestone Hollow to the mysticism of Stonor’s original ancient stone circle, which can also be explored in the parkland. How magical does that sound?
The Gardens
With lush green slopes surrounded by a host of centuries-old beech and ash trees, the parkland is home to an ancient herd of fallow deer living alongside badgers, rabbits, pheasants, red kites and buzzards!
In the Italianate Pleasure Garden, you can wander amongst ancient yew, clipped box hedges and beautiful flowers whilst keeping an eye out for the secluded hideaway nestled amongst the foliage. What wildlife will you spot in the two lily ponds?
Stonor Park hosts a wide range of events throughout the year, including seasonal events and trails on Easter, summer, and Halloween.
Magical Tales
Sat at the centre of Tumblestone Hollow are the Tumblestone tales.
Designed to keep the adventures once families head home, the children's books are written by award-winning children's author Amy Sparkes and the enchanting illustrations are done by Steve Pearce, highlighting the magical characters and folk living around the playground.
The first book, ‘The Legend of Tumblestone Hollow’, brings the story of magical stones, bravery and friendship to life and is centred around Stonor Park's stone circle, which has lied there for thousands of years. The second book, 'The Moon Witch and the Thief', tells the tale of woodland wonder, magic and mystery as the terrible Moon Witch tries to steal the ancient and magical moonstone for herself to discover its powerful secrets.
Both children's books are available to buy at Tumblestone Hollow's visitor centre.
Food & Drink
Families can enjoy delicious wood-fired pizzas, authentic Italian gelato, American-style milkshakes, and handmade burgers from the Rumble Huts.
Other refreshments are served in the Visitor Centre, and merchandise is also available. The Visitor Centre also has toilets, baby-changing facilities and high-speed WiFi.
