Hughenden - National Trust

So now we've covered the outside, what's on in the inside, we hear you ask? The much-loved manor house has been the backdrop for political dramas but more significantly, it was used as a base for a top-secret map-making operation in the Second World War! Visit the engaging interactive exhibition in the west wing to find out more.  

The house has been recreated to the tastes of previous Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli and his wife Mary Anne. You'll discover all kinds of fascinating rooms ranging from Disraeli's favourite books, his black silk robe, and royal gifts from Queen Victoria. There are so many other wonderful rooms overflowing with fascinating artworks and history in this historic house. Make sure to explore the drawing room, the library, Garden Hall, and the Hillside rooms!

And in the sunnier months? Little ones can dress up and perform in the mini-theatre, listen to storytellers, play garden games like skittles and giant dominos and go on rambles and den-building sessions with the rangers...

Have a fun-packed summer of play planned at Hughenden this summer holidays! Hughenden has made it their mission to create a wide variety of activities that are creative, active, nature-inspired or something else entirely...

Kids can compete in garden games and croquet on the lawn, or dress up in costumes on the performance stage! There will also be pop-up crafting workshops which are perfect for any mini artists you may have blooming in the family!

There’s also a natural play area next to the orchard for running and climbing, and acres of Chilterns woodland in which to build dens or make a mini manor for wildlife.

The café has lunchboxes for hungry kids or bring a picnic to much under the apple trees in the orchard.

Food & Drink

The Stableyard café will have everything you need to rest and refuel from hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and sausage rolls and homemade cakes. You can eat in or takeaway. Lunchboxes are available for your little ones too. 

Accessibility

• The ground floor of the house is accessible for wheelchairs via a ramp. The grounds have gravel paths and there as some steep slopes as Hughenden is built on a hill, staff can point out step-free routes.
• There are accessible toilets.
• Those with hearing aids will be happy to know that there is an Induction loop. 
• Braille (on guides and menus)
• There is level access to the shop.
• Wheelchairs are available to hire during your day out.

Transport & Parking for Visitors

On foot

1½ miles from High Wycombe. Please note that Hughenden Manor is situated on a hill which some people may find steep.

By train

High Wycombe train station is just under 2 miles from Hughenden, or alternatively the Arriva Service 300 bus can be taken from the bus station on Bridge Street, which is about a half-mile walk from the train station. A short taxi ride from the station (about 12 mins) saves a steep walk up the hill from the bus stop if you arrive by bus.

By bus

Arriva Service 300 buses stop at the bottom of the drive to Hughenden; there is a steep walk to the house up the hill.

Cycling

There are no cycle paths to Hughenden, please use the road directions.

By road

1½ miles north of High Wycombe; on the west side of Valley Road. From the M40 exit 4, take the A404 towards High Wycombe, follow signs to Eden shopping centre, then take the A4128 towards Great Missenden. Follow the brown signs.

Parking: Included in admission charge. Follow signs to main car park which will open at 10.00am. Entrance to car park locked at 4.30pm. Disabled spaces available.
