Drumawhey Junction
Donaghadee, County DownAbout Drumawhey Junction
The Belfast and Co. Down Miniature Railway Society was established in 1991 by a group of enthusiastic miniature railway fans and it's still going strong, so it's worth pointing out to the kids that 'if you set your mind to it…you can do anything! Either that, or 'if you build it… they will come!
This 71/4 gauge railway stretches for 1.5km. It includes bridges, cuttings, embankments, gradients, and a neat twin track tunnel, plus the engines cover all bases boasting steam, petrol and electric varieties! So it's the real deal experience just in miniature.
Being volunteer run it has to be well organised, so they run on specific dates throughout April through August with selected dates around, and it's always best to check their timetable before sharing the plan with the kids, lest you get told off later in wee little voices.
They also hold seasonal Special Events, including Easter, Halloween and Santa themed train rides! You can also book the railway exclusively for birthday parties during which the kids will get unlimited journeys.
It's worth noting that sat nav can play you up en route here, so please use our coordinates as a guide only in this instance and be sure to take a map with you!
