The Yard has been running for over 25 years and offers a stimulating and supportive environment for children with disabilities to have a great time and make new friends.
They offer daily play sessions for special schools, weekly soft play, plus 2 family sessions per week. The family sessions are great as they offer peer support for parents, siblings and more. The team of professional play workers and volunteers ensure that the environment is always stimulating and full of choice. They support and encourage children to utilise all aspects of The Yard's unique environment.
Outdoor play is provided in a safe and secure place that is fun to explore, with an ENORMOUS sand pit, a sensory garden, a stream, a music trail, and lots of natural and scrap materials for play. They also have a large ball cone and bed swing, and a range of bikes for all abilities.
Inside there is a light and spacious play hall with a dressing up area, a soft play area, musical instruments and a dressing up corner! There is also an art room, a calming sensory area, and a kitchen where you can invent new dishes.
From September 2014, all children and young people will need to be registered as members to play in The Yard. This will help to ensure the expansion of this service. The children will need to be accompanied by their parent or carer when they visit The Yard. Check the website for details on times and events, including Sunday Funday where kids can get messy, roll about or just get outside and have fun!
