Attraction Information
Essex Fire Museum shows you how firefighting has changed over the years as there have been advances in technology.
There are a collection of different fire appliances, including artefacts from World War II, hand drop pumps and other fire service equipment. A large number of photos show local fire history, plus uniforms and various documents are on display.
The old fire engines are lovely and if you are lucky, you can sit inside and have a look around (and turn on the sirens and blue lights). Kids will have fun trying on different helmets and especially having a go on the water hoses!
The guided tours help you find out a bit more about the brave firefighters and what they do, and they also hold an open day, where you can see how they put out certain types of fire and check out the modern fire engines that are used today. There are also dedicated Mother and toddler groups, which is more tailored to the little ones, who may even get a badge at the end!
Housing a well rounded collection featuring historic fire engines, firefighting equipment, uniforms and photographs, this is a great stop whether for the casual visitor or those doing relevant subjects at school who want more data. Visitors to the museum will see for themselves how firefighting has changed for the better over the years, as the technology has advanced. What does the future hold?!
