History
This beautiful Christmas tree is Norwegian spruce (Picea abies). Which is over 20 metres high and 50 to 60 years old. This real tree is selected from the forests in Norway located in Oslo. Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree is taken care of for several months even years. In Norway, this tree is known as the ‘queen of the forest’!
This magnificent tree is cut down in November. During the ceremony, the Lord Mayor of Westminster, the British ambassador to Norway and the Mayor of Oslo participate. The tree is then brought to the UK by sea. The tree is decorated in traditional Norwegian fashion with strings of lights. This famous tree also uses energy-efficient light bulbs.
