Attraction Information
Museum of Dartmoor Life is a good way to explore the history of Dartmoor. How were sheep shorn on Dartmoor? What did the inside of a Bronze Age roundhouse look like? Ever seen a truck-a-muck? How was cider pressed? What did a Dartmoor kitchen look like? The answers to these questions and more will be answered for all curious kids in this great museum, housed in a former granary that is fronted with a lovely Victorian cobbled yard.
Journey from the dim and distant past of the Bronze Age to present day through the numerous exhibits that portray how the folk of Dartmoor lived through the ages. There are 3 floors of exhibits to investigate with the kids, plus a Gallery for exhibitions and events, and they have a working water wheel too!
The interactive displays and fascinating collections bring history to life for visitors of all ages, and you can learn about traditional Dartmoor industries such as rural crafts, and glassmaking. Highlights include a blacksmith's shop, a Victorian kitchen, and a reconstructed Bronze Age hut.
Younger visitors are welcome, with blue ‘Discovery Zone' signs around the museum to indicate that there is something to discover, examine, or explore! There are also 3 Dartmoor Piskies to find, that have moved from the High Moor to the museum, but look carefully as they like to hide! Additional activities and events are held during school holidays, so check online before you visit to see what's on, see the helpful link!
