War Horse Valley Country Farm Park
Hatherleigh, DevonAbout War Horse Valley Country Farm Park
Inspired by the classic Michael Morpurgo story, War Horse Valley Country Farm Park celebrates Devon’s wartime history and the beloved tale of Albert and Joey.
Parsonage Farm, which inspired the book, has been worked by the same family for close to 100 years. Your first port of call should be their 400-year-old cob barn which hosts a World War I exhibition and explores the invaluable role horses played in the war effort, as well as the history of the surrounding area.
Outside you’ll be introduced to the adorable animals that call the farm home, counting among them two miniature Shetland ponies called Syrup and Saffron, and Joey the horse! Experience historic farming methods, vintage machinery and a simulated World War I style trench which will be both stimulating and scary for little ones. From here, take a tour of one of the farmland trails past hedge banks built by hand over 1,000 years ago! Then last but certainly not least, have a Devonshire cream tea at the conservatory.
- See where the story of War Horse was first conceived
- Museum exploring WWI, local history and more
- Farmyard animals and a nature trail
