Walking in the footsteps of adventurers
As you wander around Buckland Abbey, you'll discover fascinating tales spanning eight centuries. It’s been home to Cistercian monks, and seafarers who changed the shape of the house and the fate of the country. The Abbey is part museum, part house, and filled with treasures to discover. With gardens perfect for picnics and beautiful estate walks to explore, there's plenty here for all ages to enjoy.
Home of Sir Francis Drake
Sir Francis Drake was an Elizabethan Hero, Sea Captain, Privateer and Slave Trader. He was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe and was able to purchase Buckland Abbey using a fraction of the treasure from the voyage.
