Morwellham Quay and Tamar Valley Trust
Tavistock, DevonAbout Morwellham Quay and Tamar Valley Trust
Morwellham Quay and Tamar Valley Trust is an award winning museum attraction that forms part of a World Heritage site.
Features include a historic village, Copper Mine, port, and a railway. It is only just 4 miles west of Tavistock, and borders the beautiful River Tamar. There is plenty to see and do here, making it a great place to take the kids for an interesting, interactive, and fun day out!
The living history team will help you discover the lost world of Victorian mining as you travel by train along the banks of the river on a narrow gauge Mine Railway, then venture deep underground and experience the harsh working conditions miners would have faced in the George and Charlotte Copper Mine! You will see the actual abandoned workplaces and learn about the technical side of mining from the train driver.
You can really escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life as you wander through this enchanting village, visit the pottery, see animals, and even dress up like a Victorian lady, gent or child! You can also step inside a crowded miner's cottage, stroll along the original quaysides and docks, and see the historic wooden sailing ketch ‘Garlandstone'.
There is also plenty of beautiful and tranquil countryside to enjoy too, and you can even bring the family pooch along, provided they are kept on the lead.
