About Discover Bucks Museum

Discover Bucks Museum in the heart of Aylesbury old town, is a fascinating place to visit for all ages with an exciting programme of changing exhibitions and events throughout the year. The Discover Bucks Galleries tell the story of Bucks people and landscapes from 200 million years ago to today. See bones of a ferocious sea monster dug up in Aylesbury, a 3000-year-old Bronze Age sword and the Lenborough hoard of Anglo-Saxon coins.

One of our key attractions is the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery, a magical space designed to ignite curiosity and creativity in younger visitors. Inspired by the works of the beloved author, the gallery blends storytelling with hands-on learning, making it a favourite among families.

Discover 200 million years of Bucks history

Discover Bucks Museum, in the historic heart of Aylesbury, is a family friendly museum telling the story of the people and landscapes of Buckinghamshire, from 200 million years ago to today. In our main galleries we showcase the best of Bucks heritage: archaeology, social history, natural history, geology, art, costumes and photographs. We also house the famous Lenborough Hoard, one of the largest hoards of Anglo-Saxon silver coins ever found.

Look out for our special exhibitions and events held throughout the year. We’ve had a whole variety of exhibitions from art to hands-on science to Lego and we’re always on the lookout for the next big ‘thing’ to bring to Aylesbury to excite our visitors.

Our events include school holiday family craft activities, spooky Halloween trails, Christmas science workshops and performances to Festival of Lights days to name a few.

Parking There is no available parking outside the Museum so we advise visitors to park in either the Friarscroft Car park (HP20 2TE) or Exchange Street car park (HP20 1QY). Friarscroft car park has lots of available spaces and is very reasonable. It is next to Morrisons on the A413, with a short walk up the hill turning left into Church Street to reach the Museum. Exchange Street car park, is a short, signposted walk from Market Square to the Museum situated in the old part of the town near St Mary’s Church.
