About Lochcarron of Scotland Visitor Centre
Lochcarron of Scotland Visitor Centre is a working textile mill and knitwear emporium are prestigious holders of the Gold Award for Export Achievement (as issued by the British Knitting and Clothing Export Council) and professional tours of their working mill, museum and visitor centre have been an essential and passionately delivered part of Lochcarron's operation for over 100 years, so they know what they're doing by now!
Your family's friendly expert tour leader will guide you through all aspects of production from spun yarn to the finished article, with fun figures and interesting facts to learn, like it takes 3 goats a whole year to produce enough hair for a cashmere cardigan! It's plenty entertaining enough to keep the older kids on board.
The museum shows the past life of Galashiels through charming vintage photographs and historic artefacts shows the towns growth alongside the woollen trade plus the working Leffell Water Turbine Wheel!
They are the exclusive manufacturers of The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Tartan and are home to the world's largest range of Pure New Wool Tartans! Tartan can be fun to try and draw, so why not try creating your own family tartan with coloured pencils, a ruler and paper when you get home?
