The Board Games Spot
Ashbourne, DerbyshireAbout The Board Games Spot
The Board Games Spot is a vibrant, welcoming extension of The Co-Working Spot in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, transforming our lower-level space into a lively board game hub at weekends. Located in the heart of Ashbourne on Dig Street, we offer a cosy and character-filled setting for families, friends, teenagers, and anyone looking for a fun and screen-free activity in the Peak District.
Seating up to 15 people at any one time, The Board Games Spot provides a warm and relaxed environment that feels both social and comfortable. Whether you’re searching for things to do in Ashbourne with family, planning a relaxed evening with friends, or looking for a safe and friendly place for teens to socialise, our space offers something truly different.
A Cosy Board Games Venue in the Heart of Ashbourne
Housed within our charming Grade II listed building in Ashbourne town centre, The Board Games Spot combines heritage character with a lively, modern atmosphere. The lower-level space is well heated, thoughtfully arranged, and always accompanied by background music to set the mood. It’s designed to feel inviting and informal — somewhere you can settle in, relax, and focus on enjoying the moment.
We provide a curated library of board games suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities. From classic family favourites to modern strategy games and quick-fire party games, there’s something for everyone. During your three-hour session, you can choose one game at a time from our collection and swap once you’ve finished, giving you the chance to try something new or stick with a trusted favourite.
For those searching online for family activities in Derbyshire or indoor things to do in Ashbourne on a rainy weekend, The Board Games Spot offers a brilliant alternative to screens, shopping, or crowded venues.
Perfect for Families, Friends and Teens
All of our sessions are open to families, creating a relaxed and inclusive environment where all generations can enjoy time together. It’s a chance to disconnect from devices and reconnect with each other — whether that’s friendly rivalry over a strategy game or lots of laughter around a fast-paced party game.
The only exception is Saturday evenings from 7:30pm–10:30pm, which are reserved for participants aged 13 and above. These later sessions are ideal for teenagers and adults looking for a more independent social space.
Children aged 13 and above are welcome to attend without parents during:
Friday evening sessions
Saturdays 4pm–7pm
Sunday sessions
This provides a safe and welcoming environment for teens in Ashbourne and surrounding Derbyshire villages to meet friends and enjoy something different. However, while staff are present, children will not be supervised. We strongly recommend that at least one person aged 18+ attends where appropriate.
To maintain a fun and respectful atmosphere for everyone, we operate a simple rule: anyone, regardless of age, who behaves in a disruptive way that spoils the experience for others may be asked to leave.
Drinks, Snacks & Relaxed Social Vibes
To keep things easy and enjoyable, we offer a selection of hot and cold drinks and light snacks available to purchase during your session. From warm drinks on colder evenings to soft drinks and treats for families, we aim to create a cosy café-style atmosphere.
Because we provide refreshments, we kindly ask that you do not bring your own food or drinks. However, guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol if they wish.
The relaxed, community-driven atmosphere is part of what makes The Board Games Spot special. It’s not just about the games — it’s about conversation, laughter, and shared experiences. Whether you’re visiting Ashbourne for the weekend, live locally in Derbyshire, or are staying nearby in the Peak District, our board game evenings provide a welcoming place to unwind.
Central Ashbourne Location
The Board Games Spot is centrally located on Dig Street in Ashbourne, making it easily accessible whether you’re walking from the town centre, visiting local shops, or staying nearby. We’re just a short distance from Shawcroft Car Park, offering convenient parking options for visitors.
Ashbourne is known as the “Gateway to the Peak District,” and we’re proud to add something new and community-focused to the town’s evening and weekend offering. If you’re searching for unique activities in Ashbourne, family-friendly events in Derbyshire, or indoor entertainment in the Peak District, we provide something refreshingly different.
Important Information
As we are located within a Grade II listed building, please note that access to the toilet facilities is unfortunately not wheelchair friendly. We sincerely apologise for this limitation and appreciate your understanding.
We provide space for coats and umbrellas, ensuring your visit is comfortable no matter the weather. Our three-hour sessions are carefully scheduled, and at the end of your allocated time, we kindly ask that you vacate the space within 15 minutes to allow us to prepare for the next group.
