Markeaton Park is a family friendly open space with lots going on!
A large free play area is ideal to help blow the cobwebs away and there’s a high ropes course for those who are a little more daring! In the summer months bring your costumes and a picnic to make use of the free paddling pool, which is open from May to September.
As one of the most beloved public parks in the United Kingdom, Markeaton Park is especially popular in warmer months thanks to its spacious green areas and family facilities. The much-loved paddling pool becomes a hive of activity between May and September, making it a must-do for kids looking to cool off while parents relax nearby.
Back in the grounds there are lots of seasonal events going on, from funfairs, outdoor cinema, guided walks, family arts, bouncy castles, crazy golf, electric cars and crafts to donkey rides in school holidays. Don’t miss a round of mini golf with the kids – a fun way to break up the day and get competitive in the sunshine. History lovers will appreciate that Markeaton Park is home to several veteran trees, some of which are centuries old and date back to when the land played roles in both the Georgian period and the Second World War. This rich past adds depth to a park visit that’s as educational as it is entertaining.
In the autumn enjoy the stunning changing colours of the park around you as you take a relaxing stroll through one of the many 18th and 19th century gardens.
