BHS approved Grafton Farm Riding Centre is a family run, British Horse Society approved riding centre with riding lessons available for the beginner or experienced rider starting from the age of 4 years. The lessons are taken in either the indoor or outdoor arenas, they are given on flatwork or jumping and there are 12 horses and ponies at the riding centre with characters to suit all abilities and sizes of rider.
Escorted hacking is also available from the riding centre for the more experienced rider. The Farm is set in beautiful countryside and there are many hacks for pupils to enjoy direct from the farm running up to a couple of hours long. Pupils wanting to hack must be at least 8 years old and confident riders.
Regular competitions include dressage, show jumping and handy pony are run here with outside judges. At the end of the year, points from the competitions are totalled up then champion rosettes and cups are presented to the overall winners!
During the school holidays extra activities are organised at the riding centre. including pony for the day, fun days, test days, pony care and stable management. They are also a pony club centre so pupils can use the riding centre's friendly mounts to participate in activities and pony club tests and earn achievement badges! Pupils wanting to take their skills further can also train and take their B.H.S Road Safety Test.
The riding centre, horses and ponies are used each Friday during school term time by Kyre R.D.A. which is a charity promoting riding for the disabled and the riding centre also run pony parties where each child can go home with a rosette in place of the usual party bag of tat. Hooray!
