Attraction Information
Curious About Hereford: two self guided walks to help you (re-) discover the city. Enjoy them separately, or join them together to form a longer walk.
First Walk: Cathedral Circular
Starting outside the imposing Hereford Cathedral, location of the world famous Mappa Mundi and Chained Library, you next pass by references to Nell Gwynne, before passing through the architecturally absorbing Broad Street. Not much further and you arrive at High Town, a wide pedestrianised area with lots to explore. Finally, it's back to the cathedral via Church Street, teeming with quirky shops and places to eat and drink (1 mile / 1.6 kms)
Second Walk: Cathedral to River
From the commanding Hereford Cathedral, this walk takes you rapidly out of the bustling centre via quieter roads and footpaths. Past the Old Deanery, and the superbly architected Town Hall – said to be haunted – you finally arrive at the site of Hereford's former castle, now home to Nelson's Column, before crossing the River Wye to meadows beyond. (1 mile / 1.6 kms)
