Curious About Hereford
Hereford, HerefordshireAbout Curious About Hereford
Curious About Hereford: two self guided walks to help you (re-) discover the city. Enjoy them separately, or join them together to form a longer walk.
See the historic Cathedral, Mappa Mundi, Chained Library, Nelson's Column, Town Hall and River Wye. Enjoy!
First Walk: Almshouses to Cathedral
From ancient almshouses next to perfumed rose gardens this walk takes you on an historical tour of timeworn Hereford. There’s a chequered museum fronted by a huge bull, followed by a charming, thriving indoor market, and narrow streets teeming with quirky shops and places to eat. You’ll pass atmospheric pubs, works of art, and reminders of famous actors, before ending your walk at the magnificent, beautiful Hereford cathedral. (1.5 miles / 1.5 hours, Wheelchair & Buggy Friendly)
Second Walk: Cathedral to River Wye
From the commanding Hereford Cathedral, this walk takes you rapidly out of the bustling centre via quieter roads and footpaths. Past the Old Deanery, and the superbly architected Town Hall – said to be haunted – you finally arrive at the site of Hereford’s former castle, now home to Nelson’s Column, before crossing the River Wye to meadows beyond. (1 mile / 1 hour / Wheelchair and buggy friendly)
