Attraction Information

The highlight at Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum is naturally the underground element, but if the kids aren't too keen on descending then unlike the iceberg there's still plenty to get on with above the surface here!

The trip down into the reconstructed lead and coper mine feels very adventurous whilst in fact being completely safe: kids get to don a hard hat with light on for the duration of the exploration and for a little additional charge they can try their hand at mineral panning, too.

Their narrow gauge railway provides rides above ground on their selection of engines. Equally exciting however is the ride in a reconditioned mine train, which dips into the inner quarry allowing unusual views of the quarry face! Around this area you can also find the impressive vintage machinery to look at, including functional excavators - in fact it's even home to the Vintage Excavator Trust!

The Quarry and Mining Rooms each offer a range of artefacts and memorabilia related to their themes, with strong educational value throughout. Plenty to see and do and certainly plenty to learn!
