Go On A Caving Adventure
Explore the depths of the underground world as you journey through the show caves of Cheddar Gorge. Marvel at the stunning rock formations and learn about the geology that created this natural wonder. Discover hidden chambers and passageways that have been untouched for centuries, giving you a glimpse into the past.
Stunning Countryside Views
Venture outside and gaze up at the towering cliffs that surround you. Feel small compared to these ancient natural structures that have stood the test of time. The views from the top are breathtaking, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
But Cheddar Gorge is not just about its geological wonders – it also has a rich history to uncover. Visit the Museum of Prehistory to learn about the area's early human inhabitants and see artefacts unearthed in and around the caves.

Gough's Cave
Prepare to be amazed by our stunning show cave featuring spectacular stalagmite and stalactite formations created over 500,000 years ago! See cheddar cheese maturing in the caves, view the site where Cheddar Man's 10,000-year-old skeleton was discovered and learn about the extraordinary DNA discovery. A free audio guide is available in six languages, and there is also a special version for children to ensure you get the most out of this amazing caving experience.
Cox's Cave
The oldest show cave was discovered in 1837. Here, you can explore a spectacular multimedia walk-through experience that tells the story of how Cheddar Gorge caves were formed. This immersive multimedia experience brings the story to life with lighting, animation, and colour projections onto cave walls.
Beyond the View
Take a seat in front of our state of the art 270-degree screen. Discover historic tales, enjoy breathtaking aerial panoramic views, and learn about the special wildlife and plants that call the gorge home.
Museum of Prehistory
Discover unique artefacts unearthed in the Cheddar area that help tell the story of how people lived thousands of years ago.
Jacob's Ladder & The Lookout Tower
Venture up the 274 steps to the top of the gorge with rest stops along the route to admire the view. Marvel at the excellent views and mosaic of landscapes across the deep valleys, Mendips and Somerset Levels.
Cliff Top Walk
Hike the 3-mile loop around the gorge. Look out for the wildlife and enjoy the stunning scenery and magnificent views along grassy paths. If you don't have time to do the entire circuit, you can go for a shorter walk up to the Pulpit Rock lookout point and head back down the ladder.
Seasonal Events
We have a fantastic programme of events throughout the year to keep the whole family entertained, including during school half terms and Summer holidays. Head to the Visitor Information Centre to find out what's on during your visit.

Rockport
Imagine climbing the gorge rockface in the shadow of the 450-foot cliffs, caving deep underground, or taking part in our exhilarating Blackcat freefall in Gough's Cave. It is suitable for all abilities. Sessions are available for adults and children aged 8 years and over.
Escape Rooms: Up for a challenge?
Our two Cheddar-themed rooms, Caved In and The Vault, will test your brain power as you race against the clock to try to escape. Double the fun with our Ultimate Escape combo ticket at a discounted rate. Suitable for 12 years and over in groups of up to six people.
