All aboard! Step into Whistlestop Valley in Huddersfield, where you can hop on a train and take a ride, plus loads more fun activities too! It's the perfect traditional family day out. Steam trains? Check! Unlimited rides? Check! Ice cream parlour? Check!
Things To Do
Little railway, BIG Adventures! Whistlestop Valley offers fun for all ages with a range of facilities, including a ride-on miniature train, two outdoor adventure playgrounds, an indoor activity area and a large jumping pillow. Test out your putting skills on their Crazy Golf 9-hole course and whizz around the track on the Pedal Cars.
Hop on the big train for a 25-minute journey through the Yorkshire countryside to Shelley Station (*please check the timetable). During weekends/school holidays, face painting and fairground rides are also included in your ticket price.
Plus, don’t miss the miniature ride-on railway for your chance to zoom around the local duck pond.
Looking to blow off some steam? Swing, jump and slide through the day on the outdoor adventure playgrounds at both ends of the lines and bounce to your heart’s content on their huge undercover jumping pillow come rain or shine! Test out your putting skills on their Crazy Golf 9-hole course and whizz around the track on the Pedal Cars. If you like to get your steps in, head out on a walking adventure! You'll find plenty of walking routes around Clayton West, Skelmanthorpe and Shelley, that are all accessible from Kirklees Railway.
You can even bring your four-legged friend with you for a full family day out. Well-behaved pooches are very welcome at Whistlestop Valley on general admissions day and are permitted to travel free-of-charge on the Kirklees Light Railway. All they ask is that you book your dog a ticket.
Throughout the week, you can join them for their Young Engineers days on selected Mondays and Fridays, which are days aimed at preschoolers exploring all the Whistlestop Fun!

Food & Drink
Stop to refuel in The Firebox Café at Clayton West Station or scoops of Grandpa Greene’s Luxury Ice Cream at The Turntable dessert parlour at Shelley Station. Enjoy everything from hot food, soft drinks, fizzy drinks, hot drinks and more!
Want to bring a picnic with you? No problem! There's lots of picnic benches at both Clayton West and Shelley sites where you can eat your own food. There are also tables in the marquees at Shelley Station and The Shed at Clayton West. Just remember to always pick up your litter before you leave!

Party on the Platform Running Dates: 4th – 8th August / 11th – 15th August Bring those dancing shoes, it's time to boogie on down to Shelley! There will be party games, magic shows and so much fun for all the family.
Garden Gathering Running Dates: 18th - 22nd / 26th - 29th August Immerse yourselves into a whimsical floral setting, where you'll encounter a garden fairy and her delightful companion. There will be magic tricks and puppet shows galore! Book a Big or Little Adventure ticket to join in the fun* *Little Adventure ticket does not include a train ride to Shelley Station where the summer activities will be.
