It is open all year, free to visit, and only 3 miles (5km) south of Bolton town centre, making it a great place to visit both as a purposeful day trip or as a reprieve for the kids who don't like shopping! With varying natural displays and delights depending upon the season it's also often worth taking a camera.

It is centred on 3 large lakes, with the main one being reserved for migratory birds and wildlife, there is also a fishing lake, and a canoe lake. Rock Hall Visitor Centre is located within the grounds of the park, and next to it you can find the Bird Hide, which overlooks a wild setting of trees and bushes with a number of bird tables and hanging feeders to attract the many variety of birds that can be found in the area.
The park is also the site of the biggest play area in Bolton and can be found at the side of the Visitor Centre, which is also well worth a look if you're new to the area. Every age range is catered for, with dedicated toddler and junior areas and masses of play equipment! So bring one, bring all, bring everyone you can find: there's room for everybody and they'll all love it!
