About Bolton Museum Aquarium and Archive
At Bolton Central Library and Museum we have a wide range of activities and resources to entertain the whole family.
You can visit the cool on site aquarium, which is home to an amazing range of freshwater fish from all over the world! Open since 1941, the aquarium is the only one of its kind in Greater Manchester and a must-see for all visitors.
In the library children can access fiction and non-fiction books to read together, plus there are computers with free internet access and a wide range of online services great for occupying teens or kids approaching it more studiously than the casual visitor.
Our Museum collection is full of exciting and fascinating objects from across the globe, from Japanese Samurai armour to South American butterflies; and Bolton's connection to Egypt is celebrated in our wonderful Ancient Egypt gallery displaying jewels, treasures, everyday objects and a 3,200 year old mummy.
Children can enjoy a whole range of activities throughout the year including trails, themed weeks and talks, with special events at weekends and during the school holidays great for keeping the kids happy and occupied while they're missing school oh-so-much!
Entrance to Bolton Central Library and Museum is free so drop in for a visit and be inspired by all that Bolton has to offer.
