Blackgang Chine
Ventnor, Isle of WightAbout Blackgang Chine
There’s no better way to spend a family day out than at Blackgang Chine, the Isle of Wight’s number one park. With over 180 years of history, Blackgang Chine offers an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages, combining fun, adventure, and a touch of magic in one place. Whether you’re making cherished memories with your children or reliving your childhood as an adult, the park’s unique blend of historical charm and modern attractions will leave everyone smiling.
Start your adventure by stepping into the Lands of Imagination—a place where creativity and fun know no bounds. As the UK’s oldest theme park, Blackgang Chine has always been a leader in imaginative, themed experiences. From Cowboy Town to the depths of the Underwater Kingdom, there is something for everyone, whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning for a nostalgic trip.
Put on your cowboy hats, grab your bandanas, and step back into the Wild West. Cowboy Town at Blackgang Chine is a place where you can live out your frontier fantasies. Tend to your horses in the stables, climb aboard the stagecoach, and swing through the saloon doors. While exploring Cowboy Town, you’ll come across General Stores – the place to grab all your cowboy essentials, from hats and bandanas to cap guns and all important sheriff badges! Find out more about the park’s retail outlets here.
Take a deep dive into the magical Underwater Kingdom at Blackgang Chine and explore a whole new world. Dive into the deep blue sea and uncover the glistening underwater cave, vibrant luminescent coral reef and an abandoned sunken shipwreck before turning the corner to ‘swim’ beneath a huge 60ft blue whale overhead!
Step into the world of Fairyland, where magical creatures and enchantment await at every turn. This whimsical land is the perfect spot for younger visitors, with fairies, pixies, and other delightful creatures bringing the surroundings to life. Afterwards, head over to Nursery Land, a place where the little ones can run amok, play, and let their imaginations roam free. With interactive areas designed just for children, these lands offer safe, fun, and memorable experiences that everyone will love.
Ahoy, matey! No trip to Blackgang Chine would be complete without a visit to Pirate Cove. Are you ready to get stuck into an exciting sea battle between a pirate ship and a French frigate, complete with water cannons for classic pirate shenanigans?
Head to Restricted Area 5, home to some of the most life-like, animatronic dinosaurs ever built. Prepare for an encounter with the biggest T-Rex in the country and other towering prehistoric creatures. As you explore the land, you’ll witness the dinosaurs come to life, moving and roaring just like they did millions of years ago. With realistic sounds and stunning details, this is one of the most immersive dinosaur experiences around. Be prepared—it’s not for the faint of heart, especially when encountering the massive T-Rex!
If you’re looking for a thrill, Blackgang Chine has got you covered. The Extinction ride is one of the park’s biggest adrenaline-pumping attractions. This 360-degree pendulum swing takes riders 18 meters up into the air, offering incredible views of the surrounding coastline as it swings to terrifying heights! For a water-based thrill, take on Waterforce, the Isle of Wight’s largest waterslide, and make a big splash as you race down the steep, twisting chutes. Whether you're a thrill-seeker or just looking to try something new, Blackgang Chine’s rides deliver excitement and fun for everyone.
When you need a break from the excitement, head to the 40 acres of beautiful gardens that surround the park. The gardens offer stunning views of the sea, so take a leisurely stroll through the peaceful surroundings and enjoy the beauty of nature. The perfectly landscaped spaces are ideal for unwinding, and the magnificent views of the Isle of Wight’s coastline provide the perfect backdrop for some relaxation. It’s a great way to recharge your batteries before diving back into the action.
