Attraction Information
Yarmouth Castle is a lovely little Tudor castle, set in a beautiful seaside town, with stunning views over the Solent available from this 16th century waterfront fort. A great place for a relaxing family day out by the sea.
When you step inside this atmospheric place, you will be able to see how the rooms were used during the 16th century, plus an exhibition about the many wrecks that occurred along the treacherous stretch of coast overlooked by the castle. You can also see Isle of Wight paintings and memorable historic photos of the area. Climb the battlements for amazing views that will also show you why Henry VIII built this fortress here to guard Yarmouth harbour.
There are reading corners for children, objects such as replica plates and goblets to handle, plus a model of the castle in the form of a jigsaw that enables children to learn the history of the fort as they play. The rampart lawns provide a good spot to have a family picnic during warmer weather.
