For over 100 years now Bridgnorth Cliff Railway has been transporting the fine people of Bridgnorth up and down the 111ft sandstone cliffs which separate the High Town from the Low Town, and both from the River Severn. It is despite its vintage nature a working railway; its usefulness to the town is far from diminished by its age. It's a pleasing and slightly unusual little trip for those who like a bit of chuff stuff! Technically speaking it's the UK's oldest and steepest inland electric funicular railway, so you get bragging rights if you're a proper trainspotter!
The railway operates twin cars on parallel tracks; connected by steel ropes, the carriages then serve to counterbalance one another. So as one rises to the top station, the other runs to the bottom station! The cars are powered by an electric winding engine these days, but they were originally driven up and down by a system of water balance, with each carriage carrying water ballast in a tank hidden beneath the passenger compartment.
There is space aside for wheelchair storage so they may be amenable to sharing that with your buggy, but best to ask ahead.
