Attraction Information
The Town Mill is an ancient watermill that was rescued by volunteers through a ten year restoration project, which saved it from dereliction.
Today, the story of The Town Mill is shared by friendly volunteer millers and illustrates the history of England and its people.
The restored mill buildings, which surround a cobbled courtyard, house a working flour mill, as well as a milliner, a seamstress, a pottery with two potters working inside, a micro-brewery and a cheesemonger...so there is lots to see and learn about.
You can still buy a bag of Town Mill flour if you do, you'll be picking up a little bundle of history as the Town Mill has been delivering flour to the local community since at least 1340!
The Miller's Tour leads you through the three levels of the stone built water mill, teaching you about the art of flour making. Its amazing to think that a water mill is moving half ton millstones at over 80 revolutions per minute, worth checking out for kids and big kids.
