Attraction Information
Yeovil Railway Centre is a small steam and diesel Railway Centre that was formed in 1994 to preserve the original Southern Railway turntable (British Rail decided to remove it), and provide facilities for operation of the main line steam.
There is a Visitor Centre that was once an 1864 built GWR transfer shed, plus a 15,000 gallon water tower. Everything has been restored to working order for the servicing of the steam engines. This is an excellent place for an old fashioned family day out that everyone will love.
The centre holds regular events between March and October, including Train days, where the turntable is demonstrated and steam train rides are operated using a brake van, providing a great opportunity to watch steam at close quarters! See ‘Pectin', a Peckett steam engine, and ‘Lord Fisher', an Andrew Barclay steam engine, one of which is used on the train days to provide the rides!
Additional attractions include the Train and Tractor Day, an Easter egg hunt, a Teddy Bear's picnic in the summer, a Halloween Evening with Steam, and Santa Specials in the winter!
