Attraction Information
Sutton Hoo is a hauntingly beautiful estate set in a whopping 255 acres with amazing views over the River Deben. It seems quiet but it's also home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in modern history!
Your family can discover the incredible story of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king and his treasured possessions. Take a unique and enchanting tour of the royal Anglo-Saxon burial mounds with a 'Gruesome Grave' guide! These exclusive family friendly tours take place during most holidays and are completely free.
You can also look inside the Edwardian house where the kids can dress up like an Anglo Saxon, try the archaeological trench dig, explore Mrs Pretty's House and discover the King lying in state, surrounded by mounds of treasure! Then make your very own piece of treasure to take home like a helmet, a shield or belt buckle!
It's also nice to enjoy the beautiful seasonal colours on the estate walks, explore further with the free tracker packs and summer activity trails or dash it all and head right for the adventure playground and don't miss the zip wire!
You can even build your very own Anglo-Saxon den near the deadwood piles, and once you've finished, staff may even put it to the test and see how waterproof it actually is.
