About Shaws Corner

Playwright, politician, philosopher and wit George Bernard Shaw lived in this Edwardian villa for over 40 years from 1906. When he moved in, he was at the height of his fame. If you'd been walking up the drive 70 years ago, you would have been coming to visit one of the most famous, most photographed and most quoted men in the world. His house is very much as he left it and there are lots of interesting curiosities of the past to find as you wander around. The large enclosed garden is perfect for little legs and with exciting children's trails on offer, there is much to explore and discover amongst the flowers and trees. Old-fashioned garden games (no ball games please) are available to play as a family on the lawn and bring a blanket for a picnic. There is a small selection of drinks and tasty treats available to purchase from the visitor welcome kiosk. Dogs are welcome on leads in the garden so you can bring your four-legged friend with you. The house is suitable for older children but the garden is perfect for all children with room to explore and play
