Home to the famous playwright George Bernard Shaw for over 40 years, Shaw's Corner is a 1902 Arts and Crafts house set in a quintessentially English garden. It feels like Shaw has just left the room, from the pressed clothes in his wardrobe to the typewriter and glasses on the desk in his study. It's an interesting insight if you know of the man, which of course most younger children will not.
Littler ones will enjoy discovering Shaw's revolving writing hut in the garden! But this is generally for the older and less boisterous types, be warned. If it helps there's been a cat living there for 13 years called Socks and he has his own story on the site, which you could perhaps download and take along for if they spot him?
There's also a range of seasonal events which can be pleasing to attend with older types who can appreciate the works, including Outdoor Theatre, guided walks and vintage bicycle shows! You can take a souvenir from just an average visit too though because there are a gift shop and garden shop on site. Isn't that helpful?
House is open from midday, but seasonal variations affect closing times and opening days.
