Are looking for a unique art gallery to visit in London? You have to check out The Estorick Collection Collection of Modern Italian Art - Britain's only museum dedicated to twentieth century Italian art!
Things To Do
The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art opened in London in 1998 and is a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse. This Georgian building was originally restored with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Further recent renovations have opened up the space of the ground-floor entranceway, bookshop and café, while its six galleries and art library have also been fully upgraded.
This amazing collection showcases some of the most important pieces of Italian art from the early 20th century.
Fun Fact! This collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures and etchings was assembled by American Writer and Art Dealer Eric Estorick and his wife Salome Dessau! They even established their own Eric and Salome Estorick Foundation in 1994.
The core collection is internationally known for its core of Futurist works, as well as figurative paintings and sculptures dating from 1890 to the 1950s. The exhibition programme continues to address artists, modern life, movements, and questions in ways that change our understanding of Italian art and culture.
Food and Drink
Fancy a taste of Italy? Then make sure to stop by Caffè Estorick for fresh Italian coffees, cakes, light snacks and lunches. You can sit inside the café and glass conservatory with Italian-designed furniture or enjoy a table in their private landscaped garden for dining. Either way, you'll be transported to the heart of Italy (without ever leaving London). We think one of the best parts about the museum is the tranquil garden - it's perfect for a little coffee break.
Psstt. Adults...If you are looking for an authentic aperitivo (pre-meal drink) then head to Caffè Estorick on Thursdays for their Late Thursday events.
This museum is well worth checking out! With a range of amazing paintings and an elegant venue, it will feel like you are walking through 20th-century Italy (in the best way!).
