Barnard Park stretches a decent 9 acres across the west of the borough and boasts flagship play and sports facilities ideal for keeping the kids entertained. As well as an extensive children's adventure playground full of classic and neo-modern components plus a seasonal water play feature with interactive sprays, there's also a full size redgra surfaced football and basketball pitch to enjoy too! So be sure to take not just bats and balls but also munchkin water play gear!
On top of that there is also a fire pit as well as an amphitheatre and quiet strolls through their perennial meadow are always pleasant.
There's open access play which everyone can attend but there is also a timed period daily when there are arts and craft classes, partial supervision and even lunch clubs etc during the school holidays! So it's worth looking into if you're local enough to go regularly or if you're just super organised for your day trip one to plan in advance to include all the best bonuses!
And it's all nicely accessible as the Caledonian Road Tube and Train Stations are right nearby, plus there are several buses which drop off either Caledonian Road or Copenhagen Street on the other side of the park.
Top Tips: don't forget your sports equipment and certainly during the summer take at least one change of clothes and towels, as they're bound to be in and out of the water play area! Scooters, frisbees and careful kites are also welcome, plus a bucket and spade or water sprayer never go amiss!
