At Dumfries Ice Bowl the facilities here include the main Ice Pad (a whopping 56 x 29m) for Skating and Ice Hockey plus a 6 rink curling pad, so there's plenty of room for everyone! Ice skating is a great activity for active families to do together which is not only fun and entertaining but also increases fitness, balance, grace and confidence. Once you stop falling over, that is!
If you want them to get started properly there are a range of lessons on offer to here to help them put their best foot forward, but if you'd rather freestyle it there's also a fleet of handy Penguin Skating Aids with handles available, so the kids can have a sturdy buddy to hold onto for a few laps while they become accustomed to the ice.
The Family Impaired Session is a one where all members of the family especially those with disabilities are invited to join us on the ice, in a safe controlled environment. This session is open to all, including the able bodied too, to experience the ice and be introduced to skating, ice hockey and curling in a supportive atmosphere.
And if you fancy kicking it up a notch the lights and lasers of the Ice Disco may be beckoning you, where you'll find a live DJ pumping tunes out too. Cool! Under 8s must be accompanied on the rink for that session but if they're older you can enjoy the DG cafe and bar while they skate.
This facility is used by local and regional clubs and hosts national and international competitions including the International Synchro Competition! So do check ahead before planning your trip, not just for session type but watch out for event closures too!
