With thousands of guests embarking on morbid walking tours each year, The York Dungeon is a popular family destination. But BEWARE, the tours do have rude connotations so this attraction is more suited to older children & onwards.
The Tours
Take a bite out of York's dark and grizzly history, unravelling the darkest secrets behind this historic town in this must-see, uniquely thrilling attraction. Meet famous characters like Vikings, Isabella Billington and Guy Fawkes!
Hear ye, hear ye! All peasants must head to the Walking Tour for the scare of their lives... Unearth dark history, visiting some of York's most (in)famous landmarks and notorious characters. Expect stories, suspense & surprises around every corner. This ticket does not include entry to the York Dungeon and you must have a child in your party to take on the Walking Tour.
Have you ever heard the terrifying tales of witches? Cross paths with the eerie Isabella Turlington - a real-life historical witch. Come face to face with the notorious plague doctors and test your gumption in the torture chamber. Dodge artful thievery as you cross paths with the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin or meet other notorious characters like the hell-raising Vikings.
Got some older teens at home or adult children? The Dungeon Lates (18+) is not for the faint-hearted...This experience offers those over 18 lots more scares, seriously saucy banter (beware jokes of a rude nature), theatres, storytelling and plenty of hair-raising surprises.
Stand before a horrible judge, face a merciless torturer, or meet an executioner - you’ll be fully immersed in the story unfolding around you. Enjoy specially designed sets, special effects and gripping storytelling from a professional cast of theatrical actors.
All aboard the bus to doom... Only joking, this bus tour is surprisingly delightful with the added dread of the dungeons included in the city sightseeing ticket! This ticket includes entry to the York Dungeon and a 1-day hop-on, hop-off city sightseeing bus tour (within your chosen 15-minute time slot)! This attraction is great for kids 8+.
At the York Dungeons, you're sure to have a fantastic time with your family. Tours can last between 1-2 hours. Your walk-through experience will bring you face-to-face with some of York’s most iconic characters from history and the Dungeon Jester (also known as the Black Jester). Whether it's a horse thief or a real-life witch, the York Dungeon has something to excite history buffs of all ages.

The public bus stop is at the front of the Dungeon.
The Dungeon is a short walk from York Railway Station and there is even a riverboat service at King’s Staith Landings, a couple of minutes away from The York Dungeon.
Travelling by train?
York Dungeons is a 20-minute walk from York Railway Station with links to Leeds, Harrogate and the East Coast.
