Attraction Information
Discover York in a new way, with two unique walks of discovery. Have fun finding answers to clues and matching pictures, whilst reading short tales about some unusual places and people.
Walk 1: Minster to the Shambles
Initially take a walk in a park as you circle York's magnificent Minster, before entering the city's narrow streets and lanes with quirky shops and plentiful restaurants. Then disappear up a narrow footpath to an ancient, secret church, before meandering round some little known byways. Finally, it's back to tourist York, and the Shambles, a famously narrow, old world street with overhanging, timber framed buildings (1.1 miles / 1.8 kms).
Walk 2: shambles to Museum Gardens
From York's timeworn lanes this walk leads you past contemporary shops, mingled with ancient history. Next it's out of the bustling centre, past the imposing Minster again, and out through an ancient gateway where a knocker was installed so passing Scots could request entry to the city! Now walk beside Abbey walls, before entering the splendid Museum Gardens with its host of intriguing attractions (0.8 miles 1.3 kms).
