Rowntree Park York

History of Park

Originally opened in 1921, the famous chocolate-making family donated Rowntree Park to the city of York. The park was designed to provide a peaceful retreat for residents of the surrounding area, and it has continued to fulfil that purpose for nearly a century.

One of the unique features of Rowntree Park is the several sculptures and monuments that pay tribute to the park's history and the Rowntree family. These include a statue of Joseph Rowntree, one of the family's most prominent members, as well as a memorial to those who lost their lives in World War I. There are also decorative wrought-iron gates that you can walk through!
