Titanic Museum Liverpool
Liverpool, MerseysideAbout Titanic Museum Liverpool
One of the biggest tragedies in British history was the sinking of the great Titanic Ship, the then largest ship in the world. Did you know it was registered in Liverpool and that's why the ship carried its name? However, it docked from Southampton for New York on 10th April 1912. Here at the Maritime Museum, you can learn all about the Titanic story and her history in a whole new way.
Titanic's History
The Titanic was part of the White Star Line and their New York voyages had mostly sailed from Liverpool until 1907 when it was transferred to Southampton due to competition from the Lusitania and Mauretania sailing ships. At the Maritime Museum part of National Museums Liverpool, you'll hear about the untold story of key people on board and those who played a central role in helping those during the accident.
Did you know the Titanic was the ship of dreams? When she docked she carried up to 2,208 passengers overall and out of that number, 1,500 lives were tragically lost when she struck an iceberg on the 14th April.
Things To Do
There are a wide variety of events, provoking exhibits and stories you can see and hear. From tales of Titanic survivors, the story of Robert Hitchins, the Quartermaster who was at the wheel when the boat hit the iceberg. A dramatic account of when the lights went out as the ship was sinking and personal stories of those who lost their lives. You'll also be able to see displays of belongings like the watches of a couple there were separated by the Titanic, the lifejackets and things worn on the night of the disaster, the story of the Titanic Hero, Captain Arthur Henry Rostron of the rescue ship Carpathia and so much more. There are even stories about the dogs that were on board the ship and what happened to them during the night, as well as ship models of the Titanic. For the kids, there are Titanic arts and crafts inspired by the ship itself, as well as a show of fun music during the Titanic era and storytelling with Polar, the Titanic bear.
Your time at the museum will be spent learning about Maritime history, the historic port that the Titanic docked from and go on the Titanic Liverpool Tour. You can walk around the museum with displays and see history come to life.
