Attraction Information
Western Approaches HQ (previously The Liverpool War Museum) is a restoration of the WWII Command Centre that operated throughout the Battle of the Atlantic, which was the longest running conflict of WWII!
It was the site of an underground headquarters with an intricate labyrinth of rooms to explore, and allows you to discover what it was like during 1940's wartime Britain in this top secret nerve centre set beneath the streets!
The displays contain original artefacts from the period and this is a unique display of our wartime past. There is a soundproof phone booth that had a direct line to the office of Churchill in London, and even has a secret red telephone!
The whole family will really get a good insight into the lives of the brave men and women that worked under constant pressure in this reconstructed maze set on the original site of dramatic wartime history, which includes a Map Room to investigate. Please be aware that due to the nature of the building, it does not have wheelchair or pushchair access.
