Attraction Information
Parc Slip Nature Reserve is a beautiful 300 acre wildlife site which has been restored from a previous open cast coal mine.
The reserve has many paths through different habitats such as grassland and woodland where you can hunt for butterflies and dragonflies, and a number of bird hides overlooking wetlands where you can spot birds. There is also a traffic-free cycle track running through the reserve where the kids can bring their bikes and learn in safety. Wildlife-friendly dogs are welcome on the reserve!
After you've explored the reserve you can head back to the Visitor Centre (stopping to look for tadpoles in the dipping ponds on your way!) and have a hot drink and cake in the Coffee Shop, then visit the Discovery Room upstairs where exhibitions and wildlife films are on show. Quizzes and colouring sheets are also available for learning through play. Head back to the Coffee Shop to look at the wildlife gifts available for sale to take home and remind you of your wildlife day out!
Wildlife activities for children are available all year round through the Wildlife Watch group, which meets every other Saturday from 10am to 12pm. These include bug hunting, pond dipping, bat walks and bird watching. Please contact by email for more info.
